Teman Mustika, seni menato tubuh saat ini sudah mulai menjadi hal yang lumrah bahkan tak sedikit yang menggandrunginya. Padahal dulu, menato tubuh dianggap tidak etis, karena selalu diidentikkan dengan kekerasan,premanisme, pelaku kriminal dan sebagainya.

Seiring dengan perkembangan jaman, seni menato tubuh mulai menapaki fase yang lebih maju lagi, dimana model tato juga sudah mulai bermacam-macam. Bahkan tidak dipungkiri bahwa ada tato yang malah menambah keindahan pemiliknya.

Kata tato berasal dari "tatu" yang berarti "untuk menandakan sesuatu". Tujuan menato bisa karena alasan kebudayaan -tato memiliki makna tersendiri dalam suatu ritual atau tradisi, seperti di Borneo dan Mentawai-, sampai sesuatu yang dianggap menambah keindahan, modis dan trendi, seperti di Indian.

Tato pada awalnya ditemukan di Mesir pada waktu pembangunan "The Great Pyramids". Saat orang-orang Mesir memperluas kerajaan mereka, seni tato pun ikut menyebar. Sekitar 2000 SM, seni tato memasuki Tiongkok.

Sementara di Indonesia sendiri jenis tato tertua adalah tato yang dimiliki oleh suku Mentawai, yang berbentuk huruf. Mereka sudah menato badan sejak kedatangan mereka pertama kali ke pantai barat Sumatera. Di Borneo, para perempuan membuat tato sebagai simbol yang menunjukkan keahlian mereka. Dan orang Indian menato tubuh untuk menambah kecantikan atau menunjukkan status sosial.

Secara umum tato dibagi menjadi tiga, Permanent Tattoo untuk seumur hidup. Jenis tato ini memiliki tinta yang menembus lapisan epidermis, dan biasa juga digunakan untuk permanent make-up seperti membentuk alis dan garis bibir.

Temporary Tattoo hanya menempel dipermukaan kulit, dan bertahan sekitar dua minggu sampai satu bulan.

Body Painting, memiliki ketahanan hanya untuk satu hari.

Yang membedakan antara tato dulu dengan tato saat ini (modern) adalah cat/ tinta yang digunakan. Kalau jaman dulu bahan yang digunakan berasal dari campuran darah binatang dan tumbuh-tumbuhan tertentu, bahkan peralatannya pun masih sangat sederhana, seperti bambu dan gading gajah.

Sementara saat ini, tato dibuat dengan menggunakan alat teknologi modern, seperti listrik. Dengan alat canggih ini pembuatan tato tidak membutuhkan waktu lama seperti dulu. Untuk sebuah tato besar, hanya memerlukan waktu sekitar dua jam.

Ada 3 jenis jarum yang biasa digunakan untuk menato tubuh. Round yang bentuknya bulat, khusus untuk shining, Flat, untuk membuat bayangan dan memblok, serta Magnum, gabungan antara Flat dan Round.

Oya, saat ini jaminan kesehatan juga menjadi syarat standar yang harus dipenuhi. Alat yang digunakan juga tidak boleh sembarangan. Harus melewati quality control, sehingga bisa dipastikan alat yang digunakan steril dan higienis, dan hal yang tidak diinginkan seperti penularan penyakit (HIV dan Hepatitis) bisa dihindari. Karena itu biasanya jarum tato yang digunakan hanya untuk sekali pemakaian.

Namun, Teman Mustika, tidak bisa dipungkiri juga, bahwa menato tubuh juga memiliki banyak resiko. Misalnya, bisa merusak jaringan kulit, bahkan akibat terburuk menimbulkan kanker dan amputasi. Ini disebabkan jika menato tubuh dengan cara disetrika atau menggunakan Soda Api. Baru-baru ini sebuah riset medis menemukan bahwa membuat tato pada kulit dapat menyebabkan penyakit kulit yang mematikan. Penyakit Pemakan Tubuh, yang membuat terbunuhnya sel-sel tubuh.

Biasanya efek samping ini terjadi karena kebanyakan proses pembuatan tato tidak mempedulikan faktor kesehatan, seperti mengganti sarung tangan, menggunakan pembersih kulit, atau pun alat-alat yang mencegah tersebarnya virus.

Untuk Teman Mustika yang ingin menato tubuh Anda, ada baiknya berkonsultasi lebih dulu. Apalagi bagi Anda yang ingin ditato permanen. Karena menghilangkannya juga tidaklah gampang. The important elements in drawing....

Composition has always been an important aspect of oil painting. It is defined as the selective arrangement of the different elements that make up an oil painting. The aim of good composition is to help guide the eyes of an onlooker in a certain oil painting and keep up his or her interest in the subject matter. The main aim is to create a certain arrangement through preparatory planning and sketching in order to create a balance between the different oil painting elements and come out pleasing and interesting to the eye.

Composition is more than just a simple arrangement of a bowl of fruit or adjusting to a certain position to see a subject at a better light. There are other elements to consider when it comes to achieving ideal composition for an oil painting. Here are some of them:

Space
This is an important element in formulating an ideal composition for an oil painting. It can be done in several ways. A painter can make use of different perspectives that can better show a subject in an interesting light. A painter may plan on using space in a two dimensional where the subject of the painting can be seen as if being deformed to blend with the flat surface of the canvas. Space can also be used in a primitive form where objects are randomly distributed and seemingly without any controlling feature. Space can also be utilized in an illusionist aspect which can be created with linear perspective or in a way where distant objects appear to be smaller, lose contrast and detail or even obscured by nearer objects.

Line
Lines can be used in a number of ways to help come up with an ideal composition for a certain painting. They can enclose forms or mark the bounding contours of an object. Lines can help create movement, define a painting’s texture or integrate the other elements an oil painting.

Tone
Employing a good composition for an oil painting also requires the creative use of tone. Tone can help create the mood, drama or emphasis on oils paintings.

Hue
The specific wavelength for a certain color, a hue can be used as a primary means of creating certain psychological effects and provide emotional impact to an oil painting.

Texture
Objects can be visually patterned in order to create a pleasing diversity to an oil painting composition. It is an element that may be of help, especially in trying to instill some focus or even arrange some sort of unity on the painting. It is texture that may help (for example) make smooth silk appear different from satin on an oil painting.

Color Purity
In composition, this element refers to the intensity or brightness of a hue. Pure colors are those that come from a single wavelength and have more dazzling clarity. Pure colors can be quite unreal and should be used with the greatest caution. For a better effect on composition, pure colors are usually used together with the other elements such as hue and tone in order to make an oil painting come out.

Art???

It is one way to paint a masterpiece and another way of to evaluate it. Judging and evaluating a painting can both be technical as well as an art itself. Judges in art shows not only look for technical brilliance in artistic works but also on it aesthetic value. But how do most art judges do it? What do they really look for when evaluating different artworks?

Judging artworks may differ depending on certain situations. It may depend on certain preferences that the judges as a whole may have in mind in a collective sense. It may also depend on the level of competition perhaps as well as on the regulations that may have been established beforehand. But all in all there are some general points that art judges usually look for when evaluating different paintings.

1.Originality- quite important on the list of most judges. This implies to artworks that bore any semblance to any previous artwork made. It usually takes an experienced judge to identify original works from those that are not.
2.Innovation- this shows not only of departure from but also quite a novel use of the usual characteristics accepted in a certain genre and making full use of it on a painting.
3.Quality- characteristic of a painting that show certain authority and elegance in its design and execution.
4.Depth- a certain characteristic of a work that can induce more than just a second look from an onlooker or judge.
5.Completeness- a quality that shows a painting having integrated all the aspects in the painting to come up with a thorough and coherent statement.
6.Integrity- a quality of a painting that evokes the sincere expression and spirit of its author.
7.Intrigue- a characteristic of a certain artwork that has something left to a viewer’s imagination. That “absent quality” in a canvas that makes an onlooker wonder and think.
8.Significance- quality of an artwork that makes an impression or some worthy statement that broadens a viewer’s understanding of the world.
9.Vitality- the emotional quality of the artwork and the feelings it evokes.

The above may be considered as evaluating artworks aesthetically or it may also be viewed in some ways from a technical point of view. There are other ways that judges may also consider in trying to evaluate artworks. Judges may look at the lines of the painting. Lines may show how the subject and the figures surrounding it are being articulated. How these lines are used may have an effect on how the artwork may come out.

Form is another point that art judges consider. How the subject is being depicted, the coherence of the different bits in the painting to the whole as well as the individual characters of the different elements in the painting are also some things that judges try to consider. Color and tone in a painting and how they are creatively used also are also points that judges consider in evaluating paintings.

How to choose oil painting pigments??

Another important part of doing oil paintings is using the right pigments. With a vast range of pigments now available today, it can be quite a challenge trying to get those that are required for a certain project. Instead of trying to get all of them as part of your own art supplies, it would be more reasonable to learn how to choose the right pigments and getting only those that would meet the most requirements.

Pigment Properties
The best way to choose oil painting pigments is to know more about their properties. When choosing certain oil pigments, artists should choose those that can provide the right mix required. One of them is the pigment’s own mixing properties. Drying time should also be considered along with the paint strength, permanence and covering power or transparency of the different pigments. Different pigments may also have adverse effects when being mixed with certain pigments. Some mixtures may tend to discolor instead of getting the right type of pigment color preferred.

General Tips
When you are trying to choose from a variety of white pigments to add into your supplies, you may want to choose Titanium white, this pigment is usually the most preferred among white color pigments due to its many great properties. Titanium white is considered the most opaque of white pigments and also dries fast. It does not discolor as much as flake white pigments which dries faster but discolors when it is not protected by oil. Zinc white on the other hand, may give the purest of color mixes but usually will crack when applied too thick on canvas.

If you with to apply large areas of color to your canvas prior to some detailed work, ivory black, Indian red, flake white, yellow ochre, emerald green and Sevres blue would do quite well. They can also be chosen because they are quite affordable when bought. When choosing pigments for glazes, ones chosen should be color fast and transparent. Rembrandt blue, ultramarine deep, raw sienna, burnt umber, raw umber, and Rembrandt green are the usual favorites.

Choosing oil paint sets instead of individual pigments can allow you to get on doing your painting immediately. It can also be a more affordable choice than buying pigments separately. The only disadvantage is that, most oil paint sets would not provide some of the pigments that you would prefer using. Items included in such oil paint sets are also smaller than standard size in terms of amounts than when you try to buy them separately. So when you decide to choose an oil paint set, try to look for those that contains the most pigments that you would likely use and do not cost that much. Just add up other pigments by buying them separately.

Painting may not be all dependent on creativeness and great vision. Beauty in art can also be created by the use of quality equipment. And in the art of oil painting, quality paints and brushes can help in creating the most beautiful masterpieces. Paintbrushes, for instance become a valuable painting tool since it helps put the artist’s ideas and vision onto the canvas. Poor quality paintbrushes may contribute to a bad quality painting. A good understanding of paintbrushes and their proper use is therefore important for the budding artist.

Paintbrushes used in painting come in different types, sizes and shapes. The different brushes allow painters to create a variety of strokes required for their masterpieces. The different brushes also come in their different names. Although names and their styles may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, such brushes may still have certain similarities. In the traditional sense, short handled brushes are usually used for painting in watercolor and in ink while the long handled ones are used for acrylic and oil paintings. The different brushes are usually distinguished by the style of brush tips that they have-

Angle- a versatile type of brush that can be applied in both general painting applications as well as in applying some detail work

Bright- type of flat brushes that come with short stiff bristles. This type of brush can be useful in driving paint into the weave of a canvas in thinner paint applications. It can also be used in some thicker painting styles.

Fan- used for blending broad areas of paint on the canvas.

Filbert- another term for flat brushes with domed ends. They provide the artist with good coverage and able to perform some detail work.

Flat- a type of brush that is mostly used for spreading paint quickly and more evenly over a canvas.

Mop- a brush with a larger than usual head with bristles having a rounded edge. It is mostly used for broad soft paint applications as well as for putting thinner glazes over existing drying layers of paint without trying to damage the lower layers.

Rigger- a type of round brush with typically longish, thin hairs. It was so named because such a brush was traditionally used for painting the rigging of ships in artworks. This type of brush are useful for painting fine lines and can be both used for oils and watercolors.

Round- a type of brush with a long and pointed tip and closely arranged bristles that is useful for detail work.
Although there might be different types of brushes available that can do a variety of functions, an artist may not have a need for all of them. Some may use only two types of brushes while others may find use for quite the other different types. Such brushes may also come in different sizes and it is up to the artist to choose which brush types and sizes serve the best purpose for his own style and technique of artwork.

Acrylic painting is a fairly new painting method where artists make use of acrylic paints instead of the oil based variety. Acrylic paints first became commercially available during the 1950’s. They were first produced as house paints that were water based. Soon enough, a number of artists started to explore and use acrylic paints for their art works. Hence, acrylic painting started.

Advantages
One of the advantages of using acrylic paint is that it dries fairly quickly. This allows artists to paint different layers easily as compared with using oil based paints which require considerably more time to dry before painting on the next layer. This results in artists being able to finish art works at a shorter time. Acrylics also does not smell or emit harmful fumes. And since it is water based, acrylic paints are also fairly easy to clean up.

Acrylic Painting Techniques
Artists make use of different techniques in acrylic painting. Some of the techniques developed over time a result of the properties of acrylic paints. Just as acrylic paints are preferred by artists because of their faster drying time, certain painting practices also have to be changed. Sometimes artists need to keep the acrylic paint to stay moist for a longer time and this can be a problem at times. It takes years of practice sometimes just to learn and understand the fundamentals and apply it in what you are working on. The basics will take you to where you wish to go and the practice and the experience that you gain will help you complete your journey towards mastering your drawings.Along the basics that you have to learn is how to make use of light in your drawings. Light can bring any picture to life. The way you make use of it in your drawings can help provide a better perspective to what you wish to express in your drawings. The type of lighting techniques that you use can influence the type of mood that you wish to convey. Drawing “light” on paper may a while to master. But once you get the hang of it and understand the techniques used on how to put light into paper, then that alone can make you into a better artist than before.

There are four main types of lighting that can be used in your drawings. This will depend on where the supposed light is being sourced from. Here are examples of lighting techniques and how you can put them into paper:

For the pencil drawing to look great, there is no room for errors. A small error may not give the artist the same result in closely getting the exact replica of the photograph on paper.



Artists make use of different way in order to increase the accuracy they have with copying a certain photograph in their pencil drawings. The easiest would be tracing the outlines of the photograph. This is especially ideal for beginners in drawing by tracing some key points of the photograph to achieve better accuracy. Professionals do it by using a projected image of the photograph over the drawing surface and tracing the key points and elements for better accuracy.



A less direct way of achieving accuracy in drawing a photograph would be using a grid. The grid is a series of vertical and horizontal lines drawn initially on the drawing surface as well as the photograph to give the artist a sense of relative proportion and shape of the image within each grid square. In essence, the artist is given a means of drawing the image a square at a time. The lines of the grid gives the artist a reference from how each part of the image can be outlined.



Having a grid for reference of the outlines of the image on a smaller scale can achieve better accuracy than doing the drawing free hand. This would be an easy way for beginners at drawing to learn how to train their hand and eye coordination. Little by little,

beginners may have a better feel of how lines can be copied from the grid on the photograph to the corresponding grid on the drawing surface.



The important thing about grid drawing is to discern the relative proportion of the image. This is especially important if one is to scale up or scale down a drawing of a certain photograph and yet acquiring the same accuracy. It is not important that the distances of the lines on each grid square is measured to achieve accuracy. It is more of the proportion of the lines between each grid square that is to be achieved. When scaling up, the grid drawn over the photograph to be copied become bigger squares on the drawing surface. When scaling down, smaller grid squares are used on the drawing surface than on the photograph being copied.
